Easy Chocolate Brownies from Scratch

Ingredients:

  • Butter – 1/3 cup (80 g)
  • Dark chocolate – 1 1/2 bars (135 g)
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup (150 g)
  • Eggs – 2 pcs. (100 g)
  • Flour – 1/2 cup (80 g)
  • Sour cream – 1/5 cup (50 g)
  • Salt – 1/6 tsp. (1 g)
  • Red gel food coloring – 1 tsp. (4 g)

for the buttercream

  • Softened butter – 1/4 cup (60 g)
  • Powdered sugar – 1/4 cup (50 g)

additionally

  • Edible gold sugar balls

Cooking steps:

  1. Place chopped dark chocolate and butter in a medium bowl. Place the bowl over a pan of simmering water. Combine the ingredients while stirring constantly, and cool slightly.
  2. Put eggs in a large bowl, add sugar, beat with a mixer into a fluffy pale mass. Pour the chocolate mixture into the egg-sugar mixture, then add flour and salt, add sour cream, add red food gel coloring, and mix.
  3. Place the dough in a 20cm x 20cm square baking tin, pre-greased with butter and lined with parchment paper. Level the top with a silicone spatula.
  4. Bake in an oven preheated to 180°C (350⁰F) for 30 minutes. Leave in the tin until completely cooled.

Buttercream

  1. Place softened butter in a medium bowl, beat with a mixer at medium speed. Add powdered sugar, continue beating until creamy.

Assembly

  1. Remove the cooled brownie from the baking tin. Using a 7cm star cookie cutter, carefully cut out 9 stars.
  2. Decorate the finished cakes with the buttercream and some edible gold sugar balls.
