how to cook Easy Nut Shortbread Dough?
STEP 1
To make a delicious nut shortbread dough, start by pouring flour, powdered sugar, and ground nuts into the bowl of an food processor. Give it a good stir until all the ingredients are fully combined.
TIPS: Feel free to choose your favorite nuts or peanuts, ensuring they are finely ground. You can grind the nuts in a coffee grinder or kitchen chopper. Alternatively, nut flour like almond flour can be used as a substitute for ground nuts.
STEP 2
Next, add some chilled butter that has been cut into cubes to the flour mixture. Use a food processor to grind everything together until you get fine crumbs.
TIPS: Instead of using butter, you can opt for good quality margarine. It works just as well!
TIPS: When it comes to butter, it’s important to keep it chilled and not softened. Using softened butter will cause it to mix too well with the other ingredients, resulting in a dough that lacks elasticity. This can lead to greasy and tough baked goods, which we definitely want to avoid.
TIPS: While this recipe suggests using a food processor to cut butter, there are other techniques you can explore. Check out my article “How to Grind Butter with Flour: 5 Great Ways” for more tips and tricks.
TIPS: If you prefer an easier method, you can grate chilled butter on a coarse grater and mix it with flour.
STEP 3
In a small bowl, lightly beat an egg and an egg white using a whisk.
TIPS: If you’re wondering how to split an egg white in half, it’s actually quite simple. Just separate the yolk from the white, then lightly beat the white in a small bowl and pour out half. Easy peasy!
TIPS: If you’re using a large egg, you won’t need any additional egg white. One egg will be enough to get the job done.
STEP 4
Pour this mixture into the butter-flour mixture and continue mixing in the food processor until the dough comes together.
TIPS: Sometimes, if your dough is a bit dry, you can add some ice water to moisten it up. This will help make your dough turn out perfectly.
STEP 5
Once the dough is ready, remove it from the food processor bowl. Shape it into a ball and wrap it tightly in cling film. Flatten it slightly and let it chill in the refrigerator for about 40 minutes.
TIPS: Don’t forget to let your shortbread dough rest in the refrigerator for 15 to 40 minutes. This resting time allows the dough to develop good elasticity and makes it easier to roll out. Plus, it ensures that your baked treats won’t shrink during baking.
TIPS: Now, here’s a little trick for you. If the room temperature is too high, the butter in your shortbread dough might start to melt a bit. But don’t worry! Just pop the dough in the fridge and the problem will disappear.
STEP 6
Now you have a versatile Easy Nut Shortbread Dough that can be used to make all sorts of sweet treats like pies and hand pies with sweet filling, shortbread cookies, tartlets, tarts, and more. It’s ready to be transformed into delicious pastries!
TIPS: When it comes to storing your finished shortbread dough, you can keep it in the fridge for up to 2 days or in the freezer for 2 months. This way, you’ll always have some on hand for your baking needs.
