how to cook Best German Plum Cake?
STEP 1
To start, preheat your oven to 175°C (350⁰F). Give the plums a good wash, then cut them in half lengthwise, remove the pits, and slice each half into 4 pieces.
STEP 2
In a medium bowl, pour in the flour and ground nuts. Add the baking powder and salt, and give it a good mix until everything is well combined.
TIPS: Feel free to choose your favorite nuts or peanuts, ensuring they are finely ground. You can grind the nuts in a coffee grinder or kitchen chopper. Alternatively, nut flour like almond flour can be used as a substitute for ground nuts.
STEP 3
Now, take a large bowl and place the softened butter in it. Use a mixer at medium speed to beat the butter until it becomes creamy. Then, add the sugar and continue beating until the mixture is nice and smooth.
TIPS: If your butter is too hard, a few seconds in the microwave can soften it up and make it easier to whip.
TIPS: Instead of using butter, you can opt for good quality margarine. It works just as well! But keep in mind that margarine contains salt. So, you might want to reduce the amount of salt in the recipe. Just a little heads up!
STEP 4
Next, add the eggs to the sugar-butter mixture one at a time, making sure to mix thoroughly after each addition.
STEP 5
Gradually add the flour mixture to the egg-butter mixture, using the mixer at low speed to ensure a smooth batter.
STEP 6
Take the soft marzipan and roll it out on powdered sugar until it forms a square that fits the baking tin.
TIPS: You have two options when it comes to marzipan – you can either buy it from the store or make it yourself. It’s totally up to you!
STEP 7
Grease a square 20cm x 20cm baking tin with butter, then sprinkle it with flour. Pour half of the dough into the prepared tin and use a silicone spatula to smooth the top.
STEP 8
Carefully place the rolled-out marzipan onto the dough. Then, add the remaining dough on top and smooth it out.
STEP 9
Arrange the sliced plums in rows on top of the dough, making sure they are close to each other.
STEP 10
Place the tin with the dough in the preheated oven at 175°C (350⁰F). Bake for 50 minutes, or until the cake turns a beautiful golden brown.

STEP 11
Once baked, leave the cake in the tin for 10 minutes to make it easier to remove. Then, take it out of the tin and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
TIPS: Wondering if your cake is ready? Stick a wooden stick or toothpick into the center – if it comes out clean, your cake is done.
STEP 12
Once cooled, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top of the cake.
STEP 13
Now, it’s time to enjoy! Cut Best German Plum Cake into equal pieces and serve it with a nice cup of tea. Bon appetit!
