To start, preheat your oven to 180°C (350⁰F). In a medium bowl, combine flour, poppy seeds, baking powder, and salt. Give it a good stir.

STEP 2

Next, grab a large bowl and place the softened butter in it. Add sugar and beat with a mixer on medium speed until it becomes creamy and smooth.

TIPS: If your butter is too hard, a few seconds in the microwave can soften it up and make it easier to whip.

TIPS: Instead of using butter, you can opt for good quality margarine. It works just as well! But keep in mind that margarine contains salt. So, you might want to reduce the amount of salt in the recipe. Just a little heads up!

TIPS: Want to make the orange flavor in the bundt cakes even better? Just grind some sugar with freshly grated orange zest. Trust me, it’s a game-changer!

STEP 3

Now, it’s time to add the eggs one at a time to the butter-sugar mixture. Make sure to mix thoroughly after each addition.

STEP 4

Pour a portion of the flour mixture into the egg-butter mixture. Then, add the orange juice and milk. Finally, add the remaining flour mixture. Mix everything together on low speed until you achieve a smooth dough.

STEP 5

Don’t forget to add the orange zest to the dough and give it a good mix.

TIPS: Instead of freshly grated orange zest you can try using ground dried orange zest for a unique twist. Trust me, it adds a delightful flavor to your recipe.

Once the bundt cakes are done, leave them in the pan for 5 minutes. Then, carefully remove them and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

TIPS: Wondering if your bundt cake is ready? Stick a wooden stick or toothpick into the center – if it comes out clean, your bundt cake is done.

STEP 9

In a small bowl, combine powdered sugar and orange juice. Mix it thoroughly until you get a smooth icing.

TIPS: When it comes to icing, I’ve got you covered. If it’s too thick for your liking, simply add a little more orange juice. On the other hand, if it’s too thin, sprinkle in some powdered sugar to thicken it up.

STEP 10

Now, it’s time to pour the icing over the bundt cakes. Sprinkle some poppy seeds on top and decorate with strips of orange zest.

TIPS: Last but not least, let’s talk about icing bundt cakes again. For a picture-perfect finish, it’s best to ice them on a wire rack. This way, any excess icing can gracefully drip off, leaving you with a beautifully decorated treat.

TIPS: Now, here’s one more head up about icing. It hardens pretty quickly. So, make sure to use it right away to avoid any clumpy disasters.
