This delightful treat combines crisp, juicy apples, warming cinnamon, and a flaky pastry shell that is to die for.

To ensure a successful strudel, it is important to minimize the amount of liquid in the filling.

This prevents the dough from opening during baking and makes rolling the strudel much easier.

By straining the cooked apples and adding a sprinkle of breadcrumbs to absorb any excess liquid, you can enjoy a perfectly baked strudel without any messy leaks.

Cooking steps:

  1. Peel, core, and finely chop apples.
  2. Place butter in a large saucepan and melt over medium heat. Add apples, add sugar and ground cinnamon, add raisins, stir. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, for 10 to 15 minutes, until the apples are soft and caramelized. Then remove from heat and cool slightly.
  3. Place the apple mixture in a medium bowl, add breadcrumbs, and stir.

  2. Cover the top with another sheet of dough and brush with melted butter. Repeat with remaining sheets to create a stack.

  1. Spread the apple mixture evenly along the long side of the dough, leaving 6 cm at both ends. Cover the filling with the loose ends of the dough, then roll tightly into a log.
  2. Place the strudel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, seam side down. Brush the top with the remaining melted butter.
  3. Bake in an oven preheated to 200⁰C (400⁰F) for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Remove from oven, cool slightly.
