how to cook Best Cinnamon Apple Pie from Scratch?
STEP 1
To start, preheat your oven to 180°C (350⁰F). Grab a small bowl and lightly whisk the egg whites.
STEP 2
Next, peel the apples, remove the core, and cut them into thin slices.
TIPS: Wondering how to core apples? You can use a special apple corer or a small sharp knife to easily remove the core.
TIPS: Peeling apples can be made simple with a vegetable peeler or a small sharp knife. Choose the method that works best for you.
STEP 3
Place the sliced apples in a large bowl and stir in some lemon juice.
TIPS: When it comes to lemon juice, you have the choice between using fresh lemons or bottled lemon juice. Both options work just fine, so go with whatever you have on hand or prefer. The tangy flavor of lemon will add a refreshing twist to your dish.
STEP 4
In a separate small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon.
STEP 5
Now, it’s time to prepare the shortbread dough with vegetable oil according to this recipe. Once the dough is ready, place half of it on your work surface.
TIPS: Swap out the shortbread dough with vegetable oil for a delicious alternative. Try using the basic butter shortbread dough, shortbread dough made with yogurt (no eggs needed!), or experiment with nutty or corn flour-based options.
STEP 6
Using two sheets of parchment paper, roll out the dough into a circle that’s about 3-4mm thick and 6cm larger than a 21cm round baking dish.
TIPS: For a hassle-free experience, try rolling out your shortbread dough between two sheets of parchment paper, Teflon sheets, or special silicone sheets designed specifically for rolling out dough. This method ensures that your dough won’t stick and makes the process more convenient.
STEP 7
Roll out the second half of the dough into a 21cm circle. Use a cookie cutter to cut out several “flowers” in this circle.
TIPS: When it comes to cutting holes in dough, you have a couple of options. Of course, you can use a cookie cutter, but did you know that an ordinary sharp knife works just as well? Yep, it’s true! So, whether you have a fancy tool or just a regular knife lying around, you’re good to go. Happy baking!
TIPS: When baking, it’s important to make holes in your dough. These little openings allow steam to escape from the filling, preventing any dough from tearing and keeping your treats intact. Trust me, you don’t want your pie to end up looking like a hot mess!
STEP 8
Grease a 21cm round baking dish with butter. Carefully transfer the larger circle of the dough into the prepared dish using a rolling pin.
STEP 9
Gently press the dough into the dish with your fingers, making sure to coat the bottom and sides evenly.
TIPS: When lining the baking dish with dough, try not to stretch it too much. Stretching the dough can cause it to shrink during baking and lead to a cracked crust. So be gentle!
STEP 10
Then, coat the inside with the egg white brush.
TIPS: To keep your crust nice and crispy, create a barrier by using a ehh white brush. This will prevent it from getting soggy from the filling and maintain that delightful crunch.
STEP 11
Now, it’s time to assemble the pie. Place half of the apples in the dish with the dough and sprinkle half of the sugar mixture on top.
STEP 12
Repeat this step with the remaining apples and sugar.
STEP 13
Finally, cover the apple filling with the smaller circle of dough.
STEP 14
Seal the edges and decorate the pie with the cut-out flowers.
STEP 15
Brush the top of the pie with the remaining egg white brush and sprinkle some sugar on top.
STEP 16
Pop the dish with the pie into your preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes.
